I am often shocked by how many people do not know about factory farming, and mny others who know about it may not know the name. So lets start with the dictionary definition.
fac·to·ry farm·ing
noun
A system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry, pigs, or cattle are confined indoors under strictly controlled conditions.
This definition is as clinical and cold as the system of farming itself.
